Lore & Background

In the wake of Doctor Neo Cortex's failure to shrink the Earth, Uka Uka entrusted Doctor Nefarious Tropy with aiding him in universal domination. Tropy peered into the future and saw the Bandicoots standing alongside him; believing that controlling them would end their interference, he recruited N. Trance, a specialist in hypnotism. N. Trance successfully kidnapped Coco and Crunch Bandicoot, bringing them to his side while Crash was narrowly saved by Aku Aku. A strange clone of Crash named Fake Crash accidentally took the hero's place, yet neither Tropy nor N. Trance noticed the substitution. Consequently, N. Trance succeeded in hypnotizing the real Bandicoots into doing his bidding, turning family members against one another until Crash navigated hyperspace to free them.

In Their Own Story

The conflict began when N. Trance abducted Coco and Crunch, leaving Crash to be saved only by Aku Aku while Fake Crash unknowingly filled his shoes. As the brainwashed siblings served Tropy's evil plans, Crash and Aku Aku ventured into hyperspace to locate and liberate them from N. Trance's clutches. After Crash defeated the deceptive Fake Crash in battle, both Tropy and N. Trance realized their error but remained confident that the Bandicoots could never find their hideout. Regardless of this miscalculation, Crash tracked them down and engaged in a long and arduous battle, ultimately defeating both N. Trance and Doctor Nefarious Tropy. The story concluded with the Bandicoots celebrating with a photo that fulfilled Tropy's original vision, while Uka Uka vowed to find a real adversary.

Reader's Guide

N. Trance is the primary antagonist alongside Doctor Nefarious Tropy in *Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced*, acting as the mastermind behind the brainwashing of Crash's friends. Players must navigate side-scrolling levels, quasi-3D chase sequences, and isometric Atlas Sphere stages to rescue Coco and Crunch from his control. The gameplay involves using Crash's standard moves—running, jumping, spinning, sliding, and body slamming—to collect Wumpa Fruit and reach Crystals at the end of each level. To defeat N. Trance, players must progress through branching paths on a nonlinear overhead map, unlocking areas by gathering Crystals and Relics. Time Trials allow for the collection of Sapphire, Gold, or Platinum Relics by racing against the clock, freezing time with numbered crates. Ultimately, defeating N. Trance requires overcoming his hypnotic influence and clearing the final battle after freeing the brainwashed allies.
